Spots - Pico/Aliso Stop
Take the E Line out of Downtown Los Angeles and the first stop you'll hit after crossing the LA River is Pico/Aliso. An unassuming stop that we've found ourselves at numerous times so far this year.
We first ended up here around 11:30 PM on a Friday night in January and walked a few blocks before hearing the rumbling bass of rising LA DJ Nekter warming up the warehouse crowd for a night of hypnotic techno from Wata Igarashi. A few months later we were back at this warehouse for the mystic Skee Mask's US debut set which was hazy with a refreshing human touch.
We ended up back at Pico/Aliso for a meeting with Lucca Mart to go over Mates screen print and embroidery programs. Turns out the print shop was next door to the previously mentioned warehouse. A walk from the print shop to their showroom takes you past the HiFi shop Common Wave, the Vintage Japanese Motor Union, and a number of workshops and art studios.
Most recently we ended up at this stop to see Black Loops and Demi Riquisimo play a bouncy all night set for Midnight Lovers (our favorite party in LA). Again, it turned out this party was next door to the showroom where all the Mates hats were done. There's definitely a cool underground creative energy in this part of LA and we're excited to see what else brings us to the Pico/Aliso stop.
